Establish a state diagnostic center with state of art facilities
Implement a record keeping system as a strong performance improvement indicator for which mechanisms for auditing and incentives for compliance would be put in place.
Modern methods of electronic record keeping would be maintained and supported using sustainable energy sources in all health facilities.
Expand our primary health care coverage; double the number of existing PHC’s in the State in the first phase.
Expand the current general hospitals in terms of structure, facilities and manpower. One General Hospital in each of the 3 senatorial zones in Benue State (preferably Otukpo, Gboko and Katsina-Ala) would be upgraded to a Zonal secondary health center with provision for management of complicated and emergency health needs of the population. These hospitals would also serve as annexes for the State teaching hospital promoting research and training.
Strengthen the referral system: Each PHC would have a General Hospital which would serve as its referral center and each General Hospital should have a Zonal General Hospital serving a similar function. A good communication loop would be established between each health care center and its referring center as they may be a need to discuss referrals or complicated cases with personnel in a higher tier health facility.
Influence the completion and relocation of FMC, Makurdi to its permanent site.
Reverting the old FMC site back to a general or specialist hospital.
Establish a trust fund for supply and maintenance of hospital equipment across the state.
Ensure a greater portion of IGR from hospitals be reinvested in same hospital for the supply and maintenance of hospital equipment. This will encourage management to block leakages.
Establish & nurture partnership with donor agencies to build capacity.
Upgrade the quality of Medicare by recruiting more renowned consultants with focus to attract patients from other States and other countries, thereby making the State a health tourism hub in Nigeria.
Apply international models and make Benue state a hotspot for Global Health initiatives and also make our environment conducive for local and internationalinstitutions or researchers who would want to partner with us as we create our success story.
Take advantage of Federal Government’s Health sciences institutions in the State to support the State’s facilities, manpower as well as bring services closer to the citizens of the State.
Crackdown on quackery and support NAFDAC to fight illegal drugs.
Establish a commission to regulate, promote research and development of traditional medicine.
