Insanity is repeating the same mistake time and again and expecting a different outcome.Every election cycle, the electorate perform the ritual of perpetuating the status quo by voting the establishment. They gain nothing but buyer’s remorse afterwards. Yet, out of the force of habit, they vote the same way in the next polls.

Our people must wise up and vote smart. We have to think differently.Imagine that you are not inclined to presume that a candidate has automatically earned your vote because he is the incumbent.

Imagine that your preference for a politician is based on the quality of their manifesto.

Imagine that all candidates for elective office are required to prove their competence in a debate.

Imagine that you are attracted to the candidate who presents an agenda with more credible selling points.

Imagine that your paramount interest is not the idea of the candidate’s age but the age of his idea.

Imagine that you are the kingmaker, not the godfathers and moneybags.

Imagine that your vote is powerful.

Imagine that you desire more than a mediocre leadership; that you crave a government that is not long on billboards and short on projects.Imagine that you had the audacity to support the candidate with a superior vision.

Imagine that you lean towards the man who demonstrates a good grasp of the issues and has a solid strategy to actualize his deliverables.

Imagine that you don’t feel under obligation to echo the chorus of rented sycophants.Imagine that youths have the courage of their own convictions, that they believed the best in the themselves and affirmed the promise of their generation.

Imagine that youths can challenge stereotypes that make them ashamed of their dreams, that they see advantage in being the underdog, that they count themselves worthy of great endeavours.

Imagine that the youths don’t relegate themselves to the background or trade their place on the table for mere bread crumbs or negotiate away their birthright.

Imagine that youths rediscover their pride and take on the task of setting the agenda and pointing the society to a preferred future.

Imagine that youths had unity of purpose, that they rally behind one of their own and march like a force of progress.

Imagine possibilities.

Nigerians spend 1 billion US dollars annually on medical tourism. I have a Blueprint to divert a huge part that enormous traffic of men and money to Enugu State and make Enugu the Mecca of medical tourists in Nigeria and the West African sub-region.

Within my first 100 days in office, my administration will kick start the mission to fulfil the above objective. We will initiate measures to build 3 world class hospitals in the 3 senatorial zones. Each of them will be a Centre of Excellence specialising in Heart, Kidney/Liver and Cancer cases. All of them will be completed within the first half of my administration.

The hospitals will be run with professionalism, compassion and efficiency. The idea is to domicile first class rate health facilities that our people go overseas to patronise at a very high cost because of the dearth of comparable options at home. This initiative will reverse the flow of a lot of Nigerian wealth to foreign capitals. It will stanch the brain drain of Nigerian health experts. It will also pull back some of most gifted citizens who fled our broken healthcare system to practise in medicine in the Diaspora. This plan will create about 500 direct jobs and 3,000 indirect jobs in the respective senatorial zones. It will raise the internally generated revenue of Enugu and reduce the state’s over dependence on the monthly handout from Abuja. In addition, half of the profit made from the operations of these Centres of Excellence will be channelled to a special dedicated account.

The monies realised will be invested in concurrently addressing the core developmental needs within the three axes as a way of bringing the much clamoured restructuring and its dividends to the grassroots.  By this measure, the senatorial districts will experience renewal on a uniform peer basis. We have a mental health crisis in Enugu.

Our streets are replete with mentally challenged people. They eat off refuse dumps, drink from water and live naked. This mental health is escalating, with dozens of young drug addicts swelling the legion of the mentally challenged on the street.Within my first 100 days in office, I will send a Bill for the establishment of Enugu State Mental Health Institution (ESMHI) to Enugu State House of Assembly.

That mental health institution will be a world-class health facility. It will be run by a diverse team of professionals, comprising psychiatrists, psychologists, physicians, social workers, public health policy experts and religious ministers. ESMHI will address the ubiquitous issue of the destitution of the mentally challenged. The institution will shelter, clothe and feed the mentally challenged. It will also treat them, reunite them with their families and reintegrate them into the society. Enugu means a city set on a hill. Join me to make it the cynosure of all eyes.

My administration will mainstream compassion into governance. We will restore dignity to the poor and the vulnerable. We will humanize power and empower humanity.

I have a Greenprint to harness the incredible agricultural potential of Enugu and turn the sector into an engine of wealth creation. Our overarching strategy is to prioritize the production and development of all value chain possibilities of some selected crops on which the state has comparative advantage.

Within my first 100 days in office, I will mobilize private sector interests to buy into our plan to invest in building critical infrastructure throughout the Adani Rice Belt and across the Cassava and Oil Palm hotbeds of the 3 senatorial districts of Enugu.

We will create a conducive climate for farm/agro-allied industry synergy in  order to liberalize job opportunities and improve the quality of life of our people. Enugu is a state of enormous natural endowment.

We will reveal her riches to our people. We will fight extreme poverty in the grassroots by giving a boost to the local bioeconomy.

We will make the good of the land available to all. Join me to deliver a prosperous Enugu. Yes we can

School System

Education
Show
In spite of the ubiquitous surge of private schools, statistics show that majority of Nigerian children are educated within the four walls of public schools.

Regrettably, in the past one and half decade, the public schools have undergone a systematic degradation which has rendered them incapable of providing meaningful instruction to school kids. A visit to an average public school will expose you to decrepit classes, without enough chairs and desks to match the number of boisterous and eager children. Needless to say, the poor learning environment undermines teacher impact and student engagement.I am a proud product of the public school system. It’s the reason why I am particularly concerned about the inside of the primary and secondary schools in Enugu state today. They look far worse than the space in which my peers and myself learned the basics of English grammar and fundamentals of mathematics more than twenty years ago.

I have a plan to turn the dire situation around. I have a Blueprint to overhaul the Enugu state public school system and introduce it to the standards of 21st century academic excellence.Within my first 100 days in office, we will initiate a comprehensive inventory of the assets of our schools, including the student population, the staff strength and facilities. The survey will afford us the clear picture of the deficit gap. With this picture, we shall proceed to articulate and deploy resource responses to fit the specific needs of the schools.

As part of our plan to reinvent the schools, we shall institute a progressive capacity building mechanism to retrain the teachers. At the beginning, middle and the end of every term, the two boards responsible for managing primary and post-primary schools will organize workshops at Zonal and Local Government levels to upgrade the teachers’ didactic competencies and ICT skills. The workshops will be facilitated by certified educationists with broad experience in knowledge delivery reforms. The steady training sessions will help enhance the ability of our teachers to prepare Enugu children to compete favourably with their mates halfway round the world. Our public schools will shine again. Our kids will excel. Our state will own the future.

Enugu is replete with a lot of viable abandoned multimillion naira projects. Our Government has developed a blueprint for the revamping of these companies and projects in order to create jobs and spread prosperity.

AVOP OIL

Avop, a vegetable oil production company located in Nachi, Oji River Local Government, collapsed over two decades ago. My administration will revitalize the company through the sourcing of its raw material (palm oil) within Enugu and the South East zone. Palm oil is produced in high quantity in Enugu and our government will incentivize its production by providing improved oil palm seedlings to farmers at subsidized rates. When revamped, Avop have the capacity to create over 200 direct jobs and more than 2800 indirect jobs. This initiative will make Enugu a hub of vegetable oil production. It will spike economic activities within the state and facilitate the development of Oji River Local Government Area and other high oil palm density communities in the state.

HOTEL PRESIDENTIAL ENUGU

Hotel presidential Enugu is among the first generation of five star hotels built in the Southern part of Nigeria.  Enugu inherited that monumental asset from the then old Anambra state. All the peers of this great asset across the country are treasured and well maintained not only because of their historical significance but also due to their high profit quotient. In its heydays, Hotel presidential had a staff strength of about 150 personnel and generated well over 600 million naira monthly. I have a Blueprint to make it a world-class five-star hotel in partnership with  renowned international hospitality management company.

INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE CENTRE
Within my first 100 days in office, we will complete and put to use the International Conference Centre started by the Chimaroke Nnamani administration in other to unleash the huge financial potential that informed its conception. When completed, the International Conference Centre will be the go-to venue of conferences, retreats and events of high net worth organizations and individuals. The Center will also be a steady source of revenue to the state. We will set up a committee of experts comprising quantity surveyors, estate managers, civil engineers, electricians, project managers and angel investors to evaluate the conditions of these projects and recommend the set of resources required to revitalize these companies and projects. Part of the committee’s responsibility would be to recruit the management team of these companies and to determine the appropriate percentage of equity share of the state government in those companies as it will be operated by the private sector.

Enugu need not live below her potential.

Enugu is the gateway between the North and the South. Imagine an international market located close to the border between Enugu and Benue state. The international market will capture businesses and billions of naira that go past our state to Onitsha, Anambra state and Aba, Abia state. That singular project, to be developed through the public private model, would spring up dozens of banks, hotels, parks, malls, create thousands of jobs and enrich the people and government of Enugu state. The international market would transform the economy of Enugu as we know it.

For example, growing up in Enugu, cashew was one of my favourite fruits. I liked to eat the cashew apple for its delicious taste. In those of days of innocence, my playmates and I collected and treasured the kidney shaped drupes of cashew and played games with it. Sometimes, we would roast the drupe in open fires and crack it and consume the nuts.
As a young man, I have come to know that there is more to cashew than its yellow and red apples and nuts. A lot of value can be extracted from cashew through modern processing technologies. When we assume office, I will officially designate cashew as a strategic crop and roll out a plan to turn it into a cash crop and foreign exchange earner for Enugu State.

Many communities in Enugu have dense cashew forests which produce copiously year after year. Sadly, a significant part of cashew yield in the state is traded out without value addition. This is due to absence of processing infrastructure and lack of awareness of the industrial potential of cashew.Within my first 100 days in office, I will constitute a Cashew to Cash Task Force (CCTF). The mandate of the Task Force would be to set the stage for the development of cashew value chain and its spin offs in Enugu. The Task Force will comprise of agricultural scientists, cashew dealers, industrialists and investors. Their assignment would be to create an enabling environment for the emergence of cashew processing factories that are able to produce export-grade cashew products like snack cashew nuts, cashew oil, cashew shell and cashew nutshell liquid (CNSL).

Cashew oil is a dark yellow oil used for cooking or salad dressing. It is pressed from cashew nuts.Cashew nutshell liquid (CNSL) is a byproduct of processing cashew nuts. It is a raw material which is considered useful in developing drugs, antioxidants, fungicides, and biomaterials. It is used in tropical folk medicine in other countries and for antitermite treatment of timber.

The trade in raw cashew nuts is thriving in Enugu State. But its not good news because those nuts are sold for little or nothing because we do not add value. Our administration will create wealth by implementing a policy of value addition in partnership with the private sector. Through this means we will create thousands of real jobs along the value chain , improve the livelihoods of our people and attract development to the grassroots.
